Abstract
Case histories illustrate how materials research methods can contribute to art history. The technique employed to study the structures of works of art were x-radiography of bronze sculptures, neutron activation autoradiography of paintings, SEM of details on a gold rhyton, and microscopy of a bronze beaker and dagger. Photographs, radiographs, micrographs, 13 references, table of available macro and micro scale analytical methods.
