Four different afnor papers were aged with radiation from a xenon lamp; This method was considered to be the closest to normal ageing. The papers were subjected to sudden hygrometric changes and tested for their physical and chemical strength. The results were not entirely conclusive. On the whole hygrometric changes during ageing do not seem to affect the physical or chemical strength of paper. Bookbindings and inks will have to be tested similarly.
