Abstract
A questionnaire was sent to 148 museum laboratories asking about their methods of fumigating paper. Twenty-eight replies are published in this paper. Only fumigation was studied, as liquid treatments are not considered suitable for books. Samples of old and new, contaminated and uncontaminated paper to be used for testing were sent to laboratories upon request. The samples are ranked according to their effect on paper and their effect on fungi. From both points of view Rotanox and ethylene oxide were the best.
