Abstract
The types of organic material usually found in art objects are: oils and fats, proteinaceous materials, terpenoids, saccharides, waxes, asphalts and bitumens. Identification procedures usually fall into one of the following approaches; Specific reaction or properties (including color reactions); Production of some characteristics pattern or fingerprint, such as infrared spectrum; The separation and identification of one or more individual components. The third procedure is covered in more detail than the others and deals with various kinds of chromatography.
