Thermoluninescent (TL) dating was used on three burnt clay lumps from Dolni Vestonice, Czechoslovakia. The site has some of the earliest fired-clay artifacts that have been found (animal and human figurines). The TL dating was employed to see whether the method could be used on samples of this early a date, and to compare results with ¹⁴C dates (27,050-23,870 B. C ) on the figurines. Comparable results were obtained, when including the estimated error from water content of the sherd and soil. -- AATA
