Abstract
Photon scattering is used to determine the silver content of Roman silver alloys from Pompeii and Ercolano. The advantage of photon scattering is that a half-thickness is involved in the analysis, of about 5-100 times larger than that analyzed by XRF, and that the measurement is almost independent of the geometrical properties of the sample. A comparison with XRF analysis is carried out. See AATA 17-736.
