Abstract
A comprehensive survey of the fundamental principles of conservation in their application to historic buildings provides basic information for the solution of problems in archilectural conservation in any climatic region of the world. The structure of buildings is dealt with in detail: beams, arches, vaults, domes, columns, walls, foundations, etc. Causes of decay are systematically examined in relation to the materials affected. The role of the architect in conservation and rehabilitation, the organization of the work, and cost control are discussed. The technical aspects of the work of the architectural conservator, the special requirements of the work, and the equipment and methods available are presented in the final section of the book.
