Abstract
Geared primarily towards curators and collectors, the author defines pH and its application in looking at works on paper. The causes of and remedies for low pH are discussed as are the pros and cons of various methods of measuring pH. The article contains black-and-white photographs illustrating the effects of low pH matting materials and papers.
