First, some additions to a previous contribution about stucco techniques in history are given. Then, the drawbacks are critically referred to, coming from the traditional methods of scraping down overwashed fine stuccoes with more or less suited instruments. The necessity of previous examinations and independent pilot works at the beginning is emphasized, because final decisions upon the working method must be seriously based on the control of all technical as well as economic factors implemented. Advantageous help is offered by presentation of the glue-strappo-method, well known more from mural paintings conservation work. Without any danger of bad scraping, lime washings of almost 3-4 layers are allowed to come off with normal thick bone or skin-glue brushed on top of the stuccoes and then heated using infrared lamps. The instant drying process of the glue pulls off the overwashings. The good results for better preservation of original stucco work as well as great economic savings regarding time and money spent on this work are illustrated by restorations done in 1981 in the former Palace Attems at Graz.
