With the increasing utilization of Dalbergia louvelii, its classification becomes more controversial. In this work, the wood anatomy, ultraviolet discoloration and heat discoloration were analyzed in order to examine the classification of Dalbergia louvelii in Hongmu. The experiment data indicate that the wood anatomy, ultraviolet discoloration and heat discoloration of Dalbergia louvelii differ from those of black rosewood, but same as those of red sandalwood and padauk. This research can be a refernce for well defining Hongmu standard.
