Metallographic studies were conducted on four copper alloy spiral and hoop ornaments, together with atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) analysis on these and three further specimens, and visual comparisons with a wider body of cognate material from 16th-century sites in northeastern North America. Both smelted copper and brass were found, both evidently imported from Europe. It is argued that these artifacts are of Native American (Iroquois) manufacture from imported metal, in contrast to previous assumptions.
