Pottery sherds from four excavated Roman pottery workshops were analysed, showing intentional use of calcite-rich clays for terra sigillata ware, and low-calcite clays for other fine wares; Reasons for clay use discussed, also occurrence of gehlenite and effect of firing temperatures. -- ICCROM
