Abstract
At the National Museum's Conservation Department II, Brede, a Japanese laquer chest consisting of two boxes connected by four 5 x 5 mm wooden posts required repair. These posts were broken and in order to save as much of the laquer surface as possible it was decided to mend the chest with adhesive instead of inserting new pieces of wood. The gluing was reinforced by means of stainless steel hypodermic needles of 1.6 mm and 2.4 mm diameter one inside the other. The needles were drilled into the posts to a tight fit,the thicker needles were filled with adhesive, and the two boxes were adhered together. -- AATA
