Abstract
A natural raw material wood has several advantages: easy to fell and work with and is suitable for the making of every part of a building. The wooden bell-towers of the region in question were built in the 17th-20th centuries mainly from oak. The construction technology was passed on from generation to generation and has not changed considerably. Discussion of the reconstruction of four campaniles emphasizes that the following aims should be considered: 1) eradication of pests, 2) prevention of damage by pests and fungi, 3) water-proofing the wooden surfaces, 4) fire retardation, 5) consolidation of fibers, 6) penetration of conservation agent, 7) no change in size, and 8) protection of environment.
