Vegetable-tanned calfskin was tested for its physical and chemical strength. Several methods of heat and ageing gave inconclusive results. The vapor from formaldehyde and ethylene oxide proved to degrade calfskin as little as they do paper and can be considered safe for both. Other kinds of leather will be tested later.
