Abstract
The number of medieval wax seals in the Swedish riksarkiv is estimated at about thirty thousand. In addition to more or less careless handling, the principal cause of the breaking up of the seals has been found to be the result of the activity of a ray fungus whose growing spores perforate the wax of the seal forming microscopic canals. Information is provided regarding treatment of these seals.
