The historical importance of Sarospatak is attributable in part to the sites of estates and birth place of members of royal families and foreign princes and two major religious movements. The stages of development are as follows: ancient, middle ages, post middle ages, and recent past. Although the author proposes a comprehensive plan for the overall development of Sarospatak, he separates the tasks of city development and the preservation of the historical core. The basic aims of the author are to: establish the historical significance of Sarospatak; awake the interest of appropriate organizations of government and professional community; and, emphasize the need for a scientifically motivated restoration effort.
