Abstract
The deliberate excavation of an old ship which appears to be safe where she lies should be discouraged. Exposing part of the ship may upset the environment that preserved it and hasten its destruction. Comprehensive methods of recording waterlogged remains of ancient crafts which cannot be preserved should be utilized. Some methods are outlined in this article.
