Abstract
The ethylene/vinyl acetate polymers; Elvax (DuPont), Elvace Emulsion Series (DuPont), Comer (Union Carbide), and Airoflex Emulsion Series (Airco Chemicals) are described. The effect of exposure to near ultraviolet on the solubility of vinyl acetate copolymers was investigated. Samples were coated on aluminum foil and exposed for 800 hours in an Atlas Xenon Arc Fadeometer using a glass filter. Copolymers having more than 25per thousand vinyl acetate were observed to have a negligible tendency to crosslink and were soluble in solvents of low solubility parameter. The effect of the addition of wax on loss of solubility and tendency to crosslink is reported.
