Abstract
This article describes a method of detecting mold-made watermarks in banknotes. A helium-neon laser is used to measure the difference in transparency in the banknotes. The detection is primarily aimed at finding whether a watermark is present or not. The method has the advantage of being insensitive to slow changes in paper's optical properties such as differences in cloudiness and thickness. -- AATA
