A fire in the Concordia University Archives (Montreal) took firefighters twelve hours to extinguish. The Archives had previously suffered a serious budget cut and there was no director, no essential records program, no disaster plan and no smoke or fire detection equipment. This article describes salvage preparations and operations, drying methods, sterilization, restoration, and gives several recommendations to facilitate salvage operations. -- AATA
