Abstract
The article describes the detailed procedures for constructing a housing box for damaged books and other fragile library and archival materials. The box was originally designed for temporary housing; however, the low cost, efficiency, and ease of construction have encouraged its use by many institutions as permanent housing. The procedure consists of custom fitting the box to the book or other artifact, then folding the boxboard using a creasing machine. Rivets and fasteners are then affixed to the flaps of the box, and the artifact is sealed in the box. This procedure can be utilized by non-conservation trained curatorial and archival staffs.
