During archaeological investigations in Ulcinj a part of a defense wall, constructed of large unfinished blocks of stone varying in size, was found in the sondage. This structure was found together with some archaeological material of Graeco-Illyrian origin so that it was claimed to be a remnant of a Graeco-Illyrian wall. However, it was in fact a part of a Venetian fortification of the 16th century when stone blocks taken from an older building were used in reinforcing the fortification wall. A similar example of a dating error in the identification of a wall structure involved the wall remains found near Risan that had been identified as belonging to a GraecoIllyrian settlement of Rhizona; it was discovered that they actually originated from the 19th century. -- AATA
