Abstract
The UNESCO Regional Seminar on the Role of Museums in Preserving Indigenous Cultures, held in Australia in 1978, produced a number of recommendations of importance to museums in Australia. From these recommendations developed a policy statement on the responsibilities of Australian museums towards Aboriginal and Islander cultures. Recommendations are also made to the museum profession dealing with curating, study, conservation, exhibition and development of local native museums, and access of collections. -- AATA
