Reinforcing iron wire and band from the core of the Jüngling vom Magdalensberg (Vienna, Austria) has been examinated by metallographic techniques. The number and the shape of the slag inclusion in the wire and band are indicative of a Rennfeuer production process. The wire may have been examined by a drawing process, but not conclusive proof could be gained from an examination of the microstructures. Any vestiges of the typical grain structure originating in a drawing process have been destroyed by the heat treatment of the core before and during the casting process. Metallographs, references.
