Abstract
Surface properties of cellulose (adsorption, swelling and elektrokinetic properties) play an important part in the main processes of paper production. Investigation of the rules inducing modifications of cellulose's surface properties is necessary with a view to explaining more completely the processes determining the physico-mechanical characteristics of cellulose and of the paper to be obtained. The present investigations have been carried out with sulphite unbleached soft wood cellulose and three modified lignins - nitrolignin, oxidized nitrolignin and lignosulphonates, obtained from technical hydrolysis lignin. The kinetics of cellulose swelling at 20° in 0. 1per thousand and 1per thousand solution of lignin preparations is investigated, as well as the kinetics of cellulose swelling in water, in the presence of these lignin preparations, under the same conditions. The isotherms of lignins and the isotherms of cellulose swelling in water, in the presence of the investigated lignins, are obtained. It is established that cellulose is more easily beaten in solutions of the investigated lignins than in water, its physico-mechanical properties being significantly improved.
