The substructure of a lacquerwork vessel can be made from a single piece of wood, jointed wood sections, coiled wood strips, or woven reeds. The authors used x-ray radiography to investigate the substructures of lacquerware pieces. They provide pictures of the x-rays of 19 of them, indicating substructure construction and restorations.
