This paper tells how to mount, display, and store prints in order to protect them from agents of deterioration such as extremes of temperature and humidity, microbiological infection, dust, paper-destroying insects and vermin, nondestructive insects that leave stains, and exposure to light. Mounting a stored or framed print between a hinged backboard and window mat is the best method of protecting its exposed surface. Details of materials used and how to mount the print are provided. Framing prints for exhibition is also covered; plexiglas coverings are recommended for most purposes. For storing prints, the traditional mat combined with horizontal placement are recommended. Handling prints with hands should be avoided or minimized. Tears, stains, microbiological infection, and insects or vermin should be dealt with by a qualified paper restorer.
