Important points are as follows: (1) selection of a suitable resin for each kind of flaking, (2) causes of flaking should be studied more, (3) treatments to prevent flaking should help the pigment layer adhere to the substrate interface without leaving any resin film on the surface of the pigment layer. In many cases, an emulsion of acrylic resin is more suitable than the aqueous solution of poly(vinyl alcohol). (4) If a sliding door painting previously treated against flaking requires another treatment, the painting is first cleaned by removing the resin film left on its surface as completely as possible, and then it is treated with an emulsion of acrylic resin. -- AATA
