Restoration of a tile-topped table owned by the museum of the Spottrup Castle, undertaken by the Conservation Department of the National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen is outlined; the tiles had been attached to the wood with a mixture of beeswax and resin (1:1), after which movements in the wood, caused by the uncontrolled climatic conditions in the castle, give rise to new breaks of the tiles. During a new restoration the tiles were attached to a perforated aluminum sheet held in position by screws along the middle of the table following the direction of the grain, and metal straps were used along the edges. Between the aluminum sheet and the wood was placed a plastic folio which prevented the adhesive from binding to the wood A mixture of microcrystalline wax and dammar resin (1:1) was used as adhesive. This treatment was successful.
