Describes the history of St. Stephens Chapel wall paintings. The paint surface and ground from fragments in the British Museum were analyzed by the scientific staff of the National Gallery and the results of this analysis are reported fully in an appendix. Cleaning and consolidation of the painted surface was carried out, the materials used are described. Removal of previous backing and remounting of the fragments are also described. -- AATA
