Cotton and synthetic fabrics of vegetable origin, such as various types of rayon, may be damaged by silverfish which rarely cause holes in the fabric but tend to feed on individual fibers. Fabrics of animal origin, such as woolens, natural silks, or materials composed of wool, fur, feathers, bristles, etc., may be seriously damaged by clothes moths and carpet beetles. In both cases the damage is caused by the larvae, not the adults.
