Abstract
The panel support of this painting was crumbling due to worm damage, and the paint surface was loose. The first stage of the conservation treatment was to remove the support with its 19th-century repair alterations and transfer gesso and paint layers onto a canvas support. Painting was cleaned and previous touch-up was removed. Pigment color had been affected by earlier cleaning measures and light; pigments were identified through cross-section analysis.
