This is a continuation of experiments described by P. Philippot and P. Mora (see 197). Sets of samples (20 sets, each containing 59 pieces) were sent to participants (25 are listed), and exposed for varying lengths of time under various conditions; 1 year elapsed between the time the samples were sent and the date of this report. The samples were prepared using: various fixatives for consolidating paint film and upper layers of plaster (egg, casein, shellac, polyvinyl alcohol, soluble nylon, polyvinyl acetate and various methacrylates); various support materials (canvas, hardboard, anodized aluminum, expanded polyvinyl chloride, expanded polystrene and glass fiber); and various adhesives, which were also used during transfers (casein, calcium caseinate, polyvinyl acetate emulsion and polybuty methacrylates). Additional experiments with fixative material are reported, considering two factors; the tendency of some resins to absorb dust, and the change in solubility due to cross-linking from exposure to ultra-violet light. The need for and character of new support structures for transferred wall paintings is discussed. Further testing is planned by participants, who will be supplied with various fixatives to be used in conservation work. Results of the testing are discussed; reports from some of the participants are in the following appendices. L.
