The Archaeological Survey of India is making an international appeal to change the proposed location of a government run oil refinery in Mathur, 32 km from Agra, the site of the Taj Mahal. If low-sulfur oil supplies diminish and high-sulfur oil must be used or if the promised emission controls break down, the resulting release of SO 2 into the atmosphere would be damaging to the marble building. -- AATA
