The study of archaeological chemistry requires knowledge in many fields. In dating objects, use must often be made of geology, physical chemistry (archaeomagnetism, carbon 14), classical chemical changes (obsidian), and environmental changes (dendrochronology). When authentification of a painting is done, pigment analysis of white or flesh-colored areas and of green-blue is of crucial importance. Sampling objects for materials identification raises special problems. The study of a shipwreck was presented as an example of the interdisciplinary nature of archaeological chemistry. -- AATA
