Abstract
A number of experiments using marble of Italian monuments have shown the behaviour of marble subjected to atmospheric pollution (sulphur dioxide). This research was performed using powdered calcium carbonate. Results show that the percentage of oxidation and the quantity of sulphur dioxide absorbed depend on humidity and previous treatments of the stone.
