X-ray photographs show that the Monte Oliveto annunciation in the Uffizi was made by two artists. Underpainting and some other parts of the painting show Leonardo's broad painting. ln contrast, the figure of Mary is finely applied and minutely carried out. The author concludes that the painting was probably started by Leonardo but was finished by another member of Verrochio's studio: Ghirlandaio or Lorenco Credi. Other paintings of Leonardo's early perlod which were left unfinished are listed. -- AATA
