Abstract
Six Egyptian artifacts from the period 500-300 B.C. were studied chemically and physically to determine their metallurgical content. X-ray diffraction examination of the objects did not give some feature in the copper-tin phase relations that could be used as a timereckoning index. Emission spectroscopy was used to determine what elements were alloyed with the copper and what elements appeared in trace quantities. A large number of trace impurities showed that Egyptians were able to refine copper to a limited extent and were handicapped in cold working of copper. -- AATA
