Describes the preservative treatment of a rare finger-woven beatenout cedarbark blanket produced by the Tlingit people of the North West Coast of America which has been in the collection of the British Museum since the Mid-Nineteenth Century. No analysis of the pigments used in the design was made. The painted design in red and black appears to have been paid with color from red ochre or ground hematite and charcoal mixed with the oily substance ob tained from chewed salmon eggs as a binding medium. During the cause of cleaning evidence of a third color appeared which would almost certainly have been a copper green. -- AATA
