The Malhar tribe of Dariapur cast objects in brass by a variant of the lost wax process known as the <i>dhokra</i> technique. A model in <i>shal</i> tree resin, paraffin or beeswax, with or without a core, is invested with a mixture of clay and ash, followed by a more substantial clay mold. The crucible is added as an integral part of the mold, which is fired to remove the wax and melt the brass in one operation. Tipping the assembly allows molten brass to flow from the crucible part into the mold proper. After cooling, the casting is broken out and finished.
