Abstract
The article deals mostly with the iconography of <i>Madonna and Child with Saints Jerome and Anthony of Padua, by sixteenth-century Venetian artist Lorenzo Lotto, owned by the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Three versions of this painting exist, all by Lotto, believed to date from around 1521. Compositional changes in the design and placement of the Virgin's sleeve and the positioning of the Child's head were recently revealed by radiography and photography with an infrared vidicon television system. These changes appear to confirm that the Boston painting is the artist's first version of the composition. -- AATA
