Abstract
This radiograph, the largest ever done in a museum, was taken during the centenary of Courbet's death. It required 165 radiographic films. Analysis of the materials and condition are noted. A meticulous exploration of the radiographs from left to right is provided, recognizing the successive stages of elaboration and relocation of the characters; the powerful painting technique of the artist has been established by previous radiographs. These observations are compared with historical knowledge provided by the painter's correspondence. L.W. -- AATA
