Abstract
Drying time of Paraloid B72 varnish was studied. (A 10% solution of the varnish in toluene and p-xylene marked with C14.) Test tube paint was taken from an 1895 painting. An amount of 0.125 ml. of varnish was deposited with a syringe on each sample The evaporation and rate was measured and written on a graph. Drying time was determined by the period of solvent retention and the quantity of remaining solvent by the retention percentage.
