Pesticides are used widely and their increasing presence as contaminants in foodstuffs and other substances is of great concern to many. Although several papers have appeared in the literature on the use of infrared and ultraviolet techniques for identifying pesticides, a collection of reference spectra does not appear to be readily available. It was felt that publication of ultraviolet and infrared spectra of the more commonly used pesticides would be helpful for identification purposes. The ultraviolet spectra, in addition, are of quantitative use for estimating detection levels. The samples used for the production of spectra were representative of the stat in which they are manufactured and the distribution of impurities is characteristic of the manufacturing process. No attempt was made at further purification of the samples.
