Abstract
The biodeterioration of pastels and oil-based paintings was studied, including the influence of ambient temperature and humidity. The mechanisms of filamentous fungi infestation and the different was it manifests on pastels and oil-based paintings are discussed. Preservation and conservation procedures, including the use of benz-isothiazolene in ethanol (1:4), are presented.
