The importance of biodeterioration processes for built heritage has reached the attention of those in charge of its restoration and conservation. The microbial impact on the deterioration process has already been acknowledged and its analysis has been integrated into anamnesis programs within conservation practice. In order to meet conservators' and restorers' needs as they tackle biodeterioration problems and their preservation, it will be necessary to focus on future research and case studies. This paper highlights some aspects of the evaluation process and its relevance to effective control of biodeterioration processes within art objects.
