The concentrations of elements which can be determined by neu tron-activation analysis of obsidian samples from various flows show ranges of 1000% or more, while variations in samples from a single flow appear to be less than 40%. It is thus possible in many cases to identify the geologic source of the obsidian in an archaeological artifact. Details are given of the method used. -- AATA
