This article explores the potential of digital inkjet printing for colouring sheer fabrics commonly used in textile conservation. Steps involved in inkjet printing a variety of ink/sheer fabric substrate combinations are described. Tests conducted on the prints to determine their suitability for conservation are presented as well as two case studies that illustrate factors involved in printing single colour and multicoloured overlays. Suggestions for future work are given.
