Abstract
The four paintings, painted in 1780 by Anton Christoffer Rüde, from the domed hall of the Fredensborg palace in Denmark have been restored. All the paintings were badly overpainted. The varnish was removed with acetone, and the overpaintings with a mixture of ethyl alcohol and 5% ammonia. The old linings made with a wax-resin adhesive, exhibiting a very high content of rosin, were replaced. An adhesive of a mixture of 2/3 wax and 1/3 Ketone N resin was used. The retouching was done with watercolor and pigments ground in Ketone N. Ketone N was used also as a final varnish. -- AATA
